Today looks like a good day for a {ahem} GIVEAWAY!

My fans are increasing daily on my fan page, and also my blog!  I owe a lot of that to Amanda Moutos with Sugar Mama’s Sweet Bowtique!  So thank you Amanda! =D

She’s having a huge giveaway (hers always run so well) and I realize that with so many people entering to win, the chances of winning are much smaller for you.  Sooooooooo, I thought I’d giveaway one of my Lacey Beanies on my blog to give you one more chance.

Winner chooses size and color, with or without a flower

To enter, just leave a comment below!  Be sure to include an email address so I can notify you if you’ve won.  You must be a blog follower and a fan of my fan page on facebook to enter.  U.S. residents only.  Please allow me 1-2 weeks to make and ship the hat.

Want an EXTRA entry??  Share this with your friends on facebook, then come back and leave another comment telling me you did!

I’ll close the comments Saturday at 10pm (central) and choose a winner via random.org.

Ribbed Tam (crochet pattern)

I really love this hat!  It was inspired by a pattern I found on the blog, The Sunroom.  Her pattern is written in UK terminology, but you can find a link to the conversion in her post.  I based my pattern off of hers, and made some changes of my own to suit what I was looking for.

Please do not copy and paste my pattern.  You may sell what you make, but please link back to this page on all listings.

Use worsted weight yarn and an I hook for a hat sized for a teen-adult.  If this is too small try using a J hook, and if it’s too large try using an H hook.  You can also take out rounds 10 and 11 for a smaller hat (good for young girls).  Ch 2 at the beginning of each round counts as one hdc.

st = stitch, ch = chain, hdc = half double crochet, fphdc = front post half double crochet

RND 1:  Ch 2, work 9 hdc into 2nd ch from hook.  Join to first hdc.

RND 2: Ch 2, fphdc around st directly below, *hdc in next st and also fphdc around st below*.  Continue from * to * around.  End the round with fphdc and join to top of ch 2 from the beginning of the round.  20 sts total {10 hdc, 10 fphdc}.

RND 3: Ch 2, hdc in next st and also fphdc around st below, *hdc in next 2 sts and also fphdc around st directly below your 2nd hdc*.  Continue from * to * around.  End the round with fphdc and join to top of ch 2 from the beginning of the round.  30 sts

RND 4: Ch 2, hdc in next 2 sts and also fphdc around the st directly below your 2nd hdc, *hdc in next 3 sts and also fphdc around st directly below your 3rd hdc*.  Continue from * to * around.  End the round with fphdc and join to top of ch 2 from the beginning of the round.  40 sts

RND 5-10:  Continue this pattern, increasing the number of hdc’s between fphdc’s by 1 every round.  You’re adding 10 sts every round you complete.  At the end of round 10, you should have 110 sts.

RND 11: (begin decrease) Ch 2, hdc in first st and next 7 sts, *hdc decrease over next 2 sts, hdc in next 9 sts*.  continue from * to * around.  End with hdc decrease and join to the beginning of the round.

RND 12: Ch 2, hdc in first st and next 6 sts, *hdc decrease over next 2 sts, hdc in next 8 sts*.  Continue from * to * around.  End with hdc decrease and join to beginning of the round.

RND 13-16: Continue the decreasing pattern for these rows, by decreasing the number of sts between your “hdc decreases” by 1 st.  Round 16, you will have 4 hdc’s between your decreases.

RND 17 and 18: Ch 2, hdc in each st around.

RND 19: Ch 2, sc in each st around.  Finish off and weave in ends.
